Hmm where to start? It actually all started with 's journal.

He brought up some VERY important questions about freedom of speech. Should it be unlimited? And does having the RIGHT to speak freely not include accepting the responsibility that comes with that right?

In my opinion freedom of speech is a two edged sword. It ensures that we can voice our opinions about important issues like politics, ensuring that the democracies we live in, function. You can't have a functioning democracy without freedom of speech. On the other hand freedom of speech needs limits, checks and balances like everything else in our democracies. Without those limits we would all be living in anarchy, which I think would be something no smart being would really want.

So why raise the question of freedom of speech on a place like deviant art?

Quite simple, actually.

It seems that on deviant art there are no limits to your "freedom of speech" when it comes to your political orientation. Deviations denying the Holocaust with direct links to known neo-nazi pages that try to prove to you that the Jews in nazi Germany weren't really systematically exterminated, Germany was apparently just doing what the big Jewish (Zionist) conspiracy wanted it to do. Make them appear like the victims, so they would get their own country, thanks to the pity of other nations. Totally retarded you say? I can't agree more! But apparently hatred and lies are covered by deviant arts freedom of speech policies, because those deviations are allowed to stay. So do you think it is okay to offer msn avatars or wallpapers that show the movie posters of propaganda films defaming Jews in the worst possible way?

I don't know about you, but I believe “freedom of speech” has to have limits and all democracy & freedom loving people should say NO to lies and hatred! Freedom of speech is essential to our democracies and our personal freedoms, but allowing people to use this freedom against us can't be allowed. It isn't just nazi's telling us about how great the third Reich was, it is about everyone that propagates hatred and lies against others and outright depreciates our moral values.

Update:

It seems that was banned without notice, warning or explanation from DA again. I start to believe that some admins are very adamant in protecting the free speech of racists and nazi's, but aren't so keen on protecting the people brave enough to stand up and say NO to hate, bigottry and racism. I hope I am wrong, cause there are a lot of nice people here on DA, but do I really want to associate myself with a site that seems so keen on protecting racists? If you preach free speach but take it from certain people, is it still free speech? I would have understood if the admins had asked him to take down the links to the racsist deviations, even though I think it is utterly stupid you supposedly can say anything, but can't show people whats really on DA to proove your point. Just deleting his account without warning or notice AGAIN is just something I find EXTREMLY troubling.
